To find out about the configuration of your VAIO computer, visit the Sony online support website. [Details] Some features, options, and supplied items may not be available on your VAIO computer. [. . . ] The maintenance and management of data concerning fingerprint authentication must be carried out at your own risk. Sony assumes no liability for any defects arising out of your data maintenance and management. A fingerprint sensor may malfunction or be damaged if you scratch its surface with: A solid or sharp-pointed object Fine objects, for example swiping a finger covered with dirt across the fingerprint sensor Discharge static electricity from your finger by touching a metallic object especially during dry seasons (e. g. Static electricity may cause the fingerprint sensor to malfunction.
Notes on registering/authenticating fingerprints
Fingerprint registration/authentication may fail due to the following hand conditions. If you have difficulty registering/authenticating fingerprints, try using different fingers or washing your hands. Too dry Oily, sweaty, or wet Wrinkled after a bath Rough or injured (e. g. The fingerprint recognition rate may be reduced due to fingerprints or dust on the fingerprint sensor. Clean the sensor before registering/authenticating fingerprints.

Registering Your Fingerprint <Fingerprint sensor equipped models>
To use the fingerprint authentication function, you need to register your fingerprint in advance. Select Apps and enter “AuthenTec TrueSuite” in the Search box. If the Windows password setting window appears, set the Windows password. Note Register more than one fingerprint in case the fingerprint sensor fails to recognize the registered fingerprint due to your finger conditions, such as when the finger is injured. Fingerprint registration may not be available depending on fingerprint conditions or fingerprint sensor usage.

Signing in to Windows <Fingerprint sensor equipped models>
You can sign in to Windows with your user account for which you have registered your fingerprint by swiping the finger across the fingerprint sensor in place of entering the Windows password. See Creating/Changing/Removing Your Windows Password [Details] for more information on the Windows password. Swipe the registered finger across the fingerprint sensor when the Windows sign-in screen appears. Hint To enter the Windows password with the keyboard, select Sign-in options in the Windows sign-in screen and the key icon.

Swiping Your Finger <Fingerprint sensor equipped models>
This topic explains how to register and scan your fingerprint for user authentication. Place the top joint of your finger flat in the center of the fingerprint sensor (1).
2. Swipe your finger perpendicularly across the fingerprint sensor.
Note Do not lift your finger off the fingerprint sensor while swiping. Fingerprint registration may fail if you move your finger too quickly or too slowly. Let the fingerprint sensor take about one second to scan your fingerprint.

Using Fingerprint Authentication <Fingerprint sensor equipped models>
A fingerprint sensor on your VAIO computer provides you with secure, convenient functions. You can use the following functions by registering your fingerprints in advance. [Details] A substitute for password entry to sign in to Windows Once you have registered your fingerprints for your user account, you can substitute fingerprint authentication for Windows password entry when signing in to Windows. [Details] Website Log On for quick web site access Once you have registered your user information (user accounts, passwords, etc. ) for web sites in Website Log On, you can substitute fingerprint authentication for entering information required to access the password-protected web sites.
