All display symbols and the result of the last reading taken will appear for about 2 seconds, after which the backlight for the display will switch off. The LCD display now shows a thermometer symbol and the chosen unit of measurement. €œÂ°C” indicates that the results will be displayed in degrees Centigrade, while “°F” means that body temperature will be displayed in degrees Fahrenheit. The measuring range of the TELEFUNKEN FTO infra-red thermometer is from 0 °C to 100 °C (32 °F to 212 °F), displayed in steps of 0, 1 °C or 0, 1 °F. 2 Taking a body temperature reading Tilt the patient’s head slightly in the opposite direction and support the head (especially in the case of children). If you are taking your own temperature, use one hand to pull on the ear and the other to operate the thermometer. 16 2 Operation Once the sensor is correctly positioned in the auditory canal, use your index finger to press the START button  on the back of the unit. If the result is greater than or equal to 37, 5 °C (99, 5 °F), the fever alarm will be activated (10 short tones).
