[. . . ] Adobe Illustrator CS Help Using Help Using Help | Contents | Index Back 1 Using Help About Help Adobe Systems Incorporated provides complete documentation in an Adobe PDF-based help system. This help system includes information on all tools, commands, and features of an application. It is designed for easy on-screen navigation and can also be printed and used as a desktop reference. Additionally, it supports third-party screen-reader applications that run in a Windows environment. Navigating in Help Help opens in an Adobe Acrobat window with the Bookmarks pane open. [. . . ] 2 Set other options, if available: · · · · Drag the Scaling slider to enlarge or reduce the effect on the bitmap image's surface. Drag the Relief slider to adjust the depth of the texture's surface. From the Light Direction pop-up menu, choose the direction from which you want the light to appear. Select Invert to reverse the surface's light and dark colors. 3 Click OK. Summary of filters and effects Some filters and effects let you apply a special look to either vector or bitmap objects. For example, you can apply an impressionistic or mosaic appearance, apply lighting changes, distort an object's shape, and produce many other interesting visual results. Because many of these commands appear in both the Filter and Effect menus, it's important to understand the differences between a filter compared to an effect before applying either. (See "Comparing filters and effects" on page 273. ) Note: The filters and effects in the Artistic, Brush Strokes, Distort, Sketch, Stylize, Texture, and Video submenus aren't available with documents in CMYK color mode. If an RGB document that uses any of these commands is converted to CMYK, the effects remain listed in the object's Appearance palette but don't affect the object's appearance. 3D effects The commands in the 3D Effects submenu in the Effect menu let you convert open or closed paths, or bitmap objects, into three-dimensional (3D) objects, which you can rotate, light, and shade. (See "Creating 3D objects" on page 185. ) Using Help | Contents | Index Back 276 Adobe Illustrator CS Help Enhancing the Appearance of Objects Using Help | Contents | Index Back 277 Artistic filters and effects The commands in the Artistic submenu in the Filter or Effect menu apply a painterly or special effect for a fine-arts or commercial project. The Artistic effects aren't available for documents in CMYK color mode. Note: The Artistic effects are raster-based and use the document's raster effects settings whenever you apply the effect to a vector object. (See "Specifying raster effects settings" on page 275. ) If you apply these commands from the Effect menu, you can use the Appearance palette to modify or remove the effects from your object. (See "Modifying and removing appearance attributes" on page 269. ) Colored Pencil Draws an image using colored pencils on a solid background. Important edges are retained and given a rough crosshatch appearance; the solid background color shows through the smoother areas. Cutout Portrays an image as though it were made from roughly cut-out pieces of colored paper. High-contrast images appear as if in silhouette; colored images are built up as if from several layers of colored paper. Dry Brush Paints the edges of the image using a dry-brush technique (between oil and watercolor). Film Grain Applies an even pattern to the shadow tones and midtones of an image. A smoother, more saturated pattern is added to the image's lighter areas. This filter is useful for eliminating banding in blends and visually unifying elements from various sources. Fresco Paints an image in a coarse manner using short, rounded strokes as if hastily applied. For more information on using this command's texturizing options, see "Using texture and glass surface controls" on page 276.
