When not in use, always keep the M-Five in the carrying case provided and always store the microphone vertically. The ribbon element in the microphone can 'sag' if the microphone is stored horizontally for long periods of time, and this will degrade the microphone's overall performance. Although there is a protection circuit in series with the microphone's XLR input, accidents can happen. If voltage does make it to the microphone element, it could irreparably damage the ribbon.
