[. . . ] Two security keys are included in the system package if your system comes with a security port. Refer to page 13 for the location of the security port. Using the security port and keys To use the security port and keys: Enable the XWALL jumper on the system motherboard following the instructions on page 60. Format or reformat the hard disk drive Security key following the documentation that comes with the drive, then install an operating system. Make sure the HDD you intend to secure is connected to the PRI_XWIDE connector. The system prevents HDD bootup when you remove the security key before restarting. Insert the key to the security port to boot the system normally. DO NOT LOSE the security keys!You need to reformat the hard disk drive and lose all your data when you lose the security keys. It is recommended that you back up all your HDD data when you lose one of the keys. 1. 44 Chapter 3: Starting up 3. 2 Powering up The system has two power buttons located in the front panel. Press the system power button ( ) to enter the OS. System power button 3. 3 Using the system The following sections illustrate how to use the PCMCIA and storage card reader slots, and the optical drive. 3. 3. 1 PCMCIA card slot The system comes with a PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) card slot that supports Type I/II PCMCIA cards. The storage card reader supports the following storage cards: · · · · SmartMedia Memory Stick® Secure DigitalTM MultimediaCard The illustration shows how to insert a storage card to the storage card reader. 3. 3. 3 Optical drive If your system comes with an installed optical drive, follow these instructions to insert a CD/DVD to the drive. Tray locks 3. 46 Chapter 3: Starting up 3. 4 Support CD information The support CD that came with the system contains useful software and several utility drivers that enhance the system features. · · Screen display and driver options may not be the same for other operating system versions. The contents of the support CD are subject to change at any time without notice. Visit the ASUS website for updates. 3. 4. 1 Running the support CD To begin using the support CD, place the CD in your optical drive. The CD automatically displays the Drivers menu if Autorun is enabled in your computer. Click an item to install Click an icon to display other information If Autorun is NOT enabled in your computer, browse the contents of the support CD to locate the file ASSETUP. EXE from the BIN folder. Double-click the ASSETUP. EXE to run the CD. 3. 4. 2 Drivers menu The drivers menu shows the available device drivers if the system detects installed devices. Install the necessary drivers to activate the devices. ATI All In One Driver Click this item to install the ATI All In One Driver for the P4R8L motherboard. ASUS AB-P2800 book size barebone system 47 AD1888 Driver and Application This item installs the AD1888 audio driver and SoundMax® application. See page 53 for details. EME CardBus Driver Click this item to install the driver for the PCMCIA card slot. ATI USB Enhanced Controller Driver This item installs the driver for the onboard USB 2. 0 ports. You do not need to install the USB enhanced controller driver if you are using Windows® XP (SP1). 3. 4. 3 Utilities The Utilities tab displays the applications and softwares that the motherboard supports. ASUS PC Probe This utility continuously monitors vital system information such as fan rotations, CPU temperature, and system voltages, and alerts you on any detected problems. This utility helps you keep your computer in a healthy operating condition. 48 Chapter 3: Starting up Install ASUS Update VX. XX. XX This item installs the ASUS Update that allows you to update the motherboard BIOS and drivers. This utility requires an Internet connection either through a network or an Internet Service Provider (ISP). See page 71 for details. PC-CILLIN 2002 This item installs the PC-cillin 2002 anti-virus program. [. . . ] On the password box that appears, type a password composed of letters and/or numbers, then press Enter. The message "Password Installed" appears after you have successfully set your password. To change the supervisor password, follow the same steps as in setting a user password.
