[. . . ] You can switch on the parking lamps when needed using the standard procedure described under Parking lamps. Pathway lighting After parking the vehicle and switching off the headlamps, operating the headlamp flasher activates the low beams. You can set the duration on the Control Display or deactivate the function. Select "Vehicle settings" and press the controller. Automatic headlamp control In switch position 3 the low beams are automatically switched on or off depending on the ambient light, e. g. in a tunnel, at dawn/dusk in the rain or snow, and the Adaptive Head Light* is active. 01 41 0 158 445 - © 09/04 BMW AG Communications Entertainment Navigation Driving tips Controls At a glance The low beams remain on independent of the ambient lighting conditions when you switch on the fog lamps. With the daytime driving lamps activated, the low beams are always switched on in this switch position with the ignition key in position 2. < The automatic headlamp control cannot serve as a substitute for your personal judgment in determining when the lamps should be switched on in response to ambient lighting conditions. To avoid safety risks, you should always switch on the lamps manually under these conditions. < Lamps High beams/ roadside parking lamps 1 2 3 High beams Headlamp flasher Roadside parking lamps Adaptive Head Light* The concept Adaptive Head Light is a variable headlamp control system that enables better illumination of the road surface. Depending on the steering angle and other assumptions, the light from the headlamp follows the course of the road. Roadside parking lamps, left or right* You also enjoy the option of lighting up just one side of your vehicle when parking. When using this function, comply with national regulations: With the ignition switched off, press the lever in the desired direction 3, past the resistance point. Avoid using for longer periods, as otherwise it may not be possible to start the engine. < Activating Adaptive Head Light In switch position 3 the Adaptive Head Light is active and the automatic headlamp control is switched on. To avoid blinding oncoming traffic, the Adaptive Head Light > is not active when driving in reverse > is only active toward passenger's side when stationary Fog lamps Malfunction The LED beside the symbol for automatic headlamp control flashes. The parking lamps or low beams must be switched on for the fog lamps to operate. If the automatic headlamp control is activated, the low beams will come on automatically when you switch on the fog lamps. < Reading lamps The reading lamps are beside the interior lamp. You can turn them on and off using the buttons 2 located next to the lamps. To avoid draining the battery, all of the vehicle's interior lamps are automatically switched off approx. 15 minutes after the ignition is switched off. < Interior lamps Control of the interior lamps, footwell lamps, door entry lighting, courtesy lamps* and sill panel lighting* is automatic. Switching the interior lamps on and off manually Press button 1. If you want the interior lamps to remain off continuously, maintain pressure on the button for approx.
