Sustain Knob This knob is used to set both the threshold and output gain of the compression effect. Set between the minimum and the 11 o'clock positions, you get mild to medium compression that limits the peak input signals. Set between the 12 o'clock and max positions, you will achieve greater sustain when balancing this control's setting with the Level control. You can also drive the input of an amplifier harder when this control is turned up which may help to increase distortion.
