Pull on the bobbin threads simultaneously from each end of the fabric until the desired amount is gathered. Lapped Application Lapped zippers are usually inserted into a side seam of skirts or pants, for example. € To sew the left side of the zipper, attach the zipper foot on the right-hand side. € To sew the right side of the zipper, attach the zipper foot on the left-hand side. Place right sides of fabric together and sew the seam located below zipper placement. (Make sure to reverse sew the stitches directly below the zipper placement. Teeth are on the seam line and zipper top is 1 cm (3/8˝) from fabric top edge. Turn zipper face up (right seam allowance forms a small fold at basting line) and smooth zipper teeth away from seam. Starting at the bottom, sew through the folded seam allowance and zipper tape. Stop just before the zipper foot reaches the slider on the zipper tape. Close the zipper and spread the fabric flat with the right side facing up. Guide the edge of foot along the zipper teeth and stitch through the garment and zipper tape. Raise the foot, remove the basting stitches from seam line and open the zipper. Lower the foot and stitch the remainder of the seam, making sure the fold is even. 43 Zigzag Stitch q w e Machine Settings q Pattern: w Presser foot: e Needle thread tension: #08 Zigzag foot A 3–7 The zigzag stitch is a very versatile stitch. Use the zigzag to finish raw seam edges, sew narrow hems, sew satin stitch appliques and create beautiful monograms.
