[. . . ] [. . . ] These surfaces should never be lubricated as it delays the "wear-in" period required to produce an effective seal. The seals must never be run "dry" since the lack of fluid to lubricate these surfaces will quickly ruin the seal.
Lubricate all "rubber" components of the seal prior to installation. Lubricate with vegetable oil, plain water or a solution of (50% maximum) "dish soap" and water. Petroleum-based or silicone-based lubricants are not to be used as they may adversely affect the "rubber parts. " [. . . ] [. . . ]
