WARNING: Do not coast down a hill in neutral, you may lose control of the tractor. WARNING: Tow only the attachments that are recommended by and comply with specifications of the manufacturer of your tractor. [. . . ] 16 Your tractor has a battery charging system which is sufficient for normal use. However, periodic charging of the battery with an automotive charger will extend its life. NOTE: The original equipment battery on your tractor is maintenance free. TO CLEAN BATTERY AND TERMINALS Corrosion and dirt on the battery and terminals can cause the battery to “leak” power. • Disconnect BLACK battery cable first then RED battery cable and remove battery from tractor. • Clean terminals and battery cable ends with wire brush until bright. • Reinstall battery (See “REPLACING BATTERY" in the SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS section of this manual). 02828 ROS "ON" POSITION ENGINE "ON" POSITION (NORMAL OPERATING) Fig. 15 15 MAINTENANCE V-BELTS Check V-belts for deterioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary. Replace belts if they begin to slip from wear. DOCKING POSITION OIL DRAIN EXTENSION TRANSAXLE MAINTENANCE The transmission fan and cooling fins should be kept clean to ensure proper cooling. Do not attempt to clean fan or transmission while engine is running or while the transmission is hot. To prevent possible damage to seals, do not use high pressure water or steam to clean transmission. • Inspect cooling fan to be sure fan blades are intact and clean. • Inspect cooling fins for dirt, grass clippings and other materials. To prevent damage to seals, do not use compressed air or high pressure sprayer to clean cooling fins. 02 46 3 CAP 2. 7. TRANSAXLE PUMP FLUID The transaxle was sealed at the factory and fluid maintenance is not required for the life of the transaxle. Should the transaxle ever leak or require servicing, contact your nearest authorized service center/department. ENGINE LUBRICATION Only use high quality detergent oil rated with API service classification SG-SL. Select the oil’s SAE viscosity grade according to your expected operating temperature. SAE VISCOSITY GRADES SAE 30 5W-30 F C -30 -20 -20 0 -10 30 32 0 40 10 60 20 80 30 100 40 Fig. 18 Slide oil drain extension from the docking position on the engine blower housing and extend outward from engine. To open, twist cap counter-clockwise After oil is drained completely, replace cap and twist clockwise until it stops. For approximate capacity see “PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS” section of this manual. For accurate reading, tighten dipstick cap securely onto the tube before removing dipstick. Tighten cap onto the tube securely when finished. AIR FILTER Your engine will not run properly using a dirty air filter. [. . . ] This difference is due to a variety of factors including, but not limited to, accessories (air cleaner, exhaust, charging, cooling, carburetor, fuel pump, etc. ), application limitations, ambient operating conditions (temperature, humidity, altitude), and engine-to-engine variability. Due to manufacturing and capacity limitations, Briggs & Stratton may substitute an engine of higher rated power for this Series engine. 37 TRACTOR - MODEL NO. 960 43 00-90 STEERING ASSEMBLY 26 45 51 1 20 21 16 63 19 60 57 63 61 8 9 7 2 59 6 4 58 28 13 15 22 50 14 62 14 15 65 50 67 6 5 13 98 7 55 78 67 55 65 54 66 54 35 64 53 8 69 68 13 70 Steering-tex_LEGND2_33 38 TRACTOR - MODEL NO. 1 2 4 5 6 7 8 9 13 14 15 16 19 21 22 26 28 35 45 50 51 53 54 55 57 58 59 60 61 62 63 64 65 66 67 68 69 70 78 PART NO.
