Recording time Image size Microphone Recording indicator 56 MOVIE AND AUDIO RECORDING AUDIO RECORDING Audio can be recorded without an image. A maximum of 180 minutes can be recorded at one time; the optional AC adapter is required for long recordings. See page 58 for details on menu operation. 1 The audio recording mode uses a blue screen. In stand-by, the monitor shows the approximate recording time available. Press shutter button to record. Microphone To begin recording, press and release the shutter button (1). The frame counter will display the elapsed time; during the last ten seconds, the counter will turn red and count down the time. The recording will stop when the shutter-release button is pressed again or the remaining time has elapsed. When making audio recordings, be careful not to touch or cover the microphone. The quality of the recording is proportional to the subject to microphone distance. For best results, hold the camera approximately 20cm (8in) from your mouth. Recording audio. Press shutter button to stop. 57 NAVIGATING THE MOVIE/AUDIO RECORDING MENU Navigating the menu is simple. The left/right and up/down keys of the controller control the cursor and change settings on the menu. Pressing the center button of the controller selects menu options and sets adjustments. With the menu option to be changed highlighted, press the right key; the settings will be displayed with the current setting indicated by an arrow. Use the zoom lever to highlight the new setting. Press the center button of the controller to select the highlighted setting. Basic RecordingMode Movie Image size WhiteBalance Color mode 320 X 240 Auto Color Once a setting has been selected, the cursor will return to the menu options and the new setting will be displayed. To return to the movie/audio mode, press the menu button. 58 MOVIE AND AUDIO RECORDING Basic Recording mode Image size White balance Movie Audio 320 X 240 160 X 120 Auto Daylight Cloudy Tungsten Fluorescent Color B&W Sepia The recording mode option switches between recording movie clips or audio. Image size not only affects the resolution of the movie image, but also changes the maximum length of the movie clip. The recording rate for a 320 X 240 size movie is approximately 340 KB/sec, and approximately 85 KB/sec for a 160 X 120 movie. A 16 MB memory card can contain approximately 41 seconds of digital video recorded at 320 X 240 or 150 seconds at 160 X 120. Any changes to these two options will also affect the recording mode. Color mode NOTES ON MOVIE RECORDING In movie recording, some functions can be used, some are fixed, and some are disabled, . Image size, white balance, and color mode can be selected with the movie menu. The display button switches between the full display and the live image only. [. . . ] If the camera resets each time it is turned off, the battery is exhausted. If the contacts become dirty, wipe them with a cotton swab.
