Attention Do not pull jammed media from the top of the printer through the fuser unit; otherwise, unfused toner may dirty the fuser rollers. If it is difficult to remove the jammed media, turn the misfeed-clearing dial counterclockwise to feed the media downward. 2 3 If a misfeed occurs in the vertical transport area, open the inner media guide, and then pull the misfed media down to remove it. Close the inner media guide. 90 Clearing Media Jams Fuser Jams 1 Lift up the two fuser unit levers. When removing the jammed media, be careful not to touch the transfer belt. Touching the transfer belt may result in decreased print quality. 2 Open the misfeed-clearing guide for the fuser unit, and then, while checking the misfeed, pull the jammed media down to remove it. Close the misfeed-clearing guide for the fuser unit. 3 4 Lower the two fuser unit levers. Attention Be sure to lower the two fuser unit levers before closing the right door. If the levers are not lowered, the right door cannot be closed. 5 Close the right-side door. Clearing Media Jams 91 If the optional lower feeder unit is installed, close the lower-right door. The media jam message is no longer displayed in the printer message window. Check the right-side release to make sure the door is securely closed. Duplex Option 1 Pull off the top of the duplex option to open the duplex option cover. 2 Remove the jammed media in the directions shown in the illustration. 92 Clearing Media Jams 3 Open the right-side door, then close it. Repeated jams may also happen if you're using unsupported print media. Solution Remove the media and even up the front edges, then reload it. Open and close the right-side door of the printer again. Symptom Several sheets go through the printer together. Media jam message stays on. Right-side door needs to be opened and closed again to reset the printer. Some media remains Recheck the media path and make jammed in the printer. Only plain paper, 16­24 lb (60­90 g/m2) can be autoduplexed if the optional duplex unit is installed and the media type is set properly in the driver. Do not duplex custom-sized media, envelopes, labels, thick stock, or transparencies. Recheck the media path inside the duplex unit and make sure that you have removed all of the jammed media. 94 Solving Problems with Media Jams Symptom Media is jamming. The recommended Load the transparencies or labels transparency (OHP) according to the manufacturer's or label paper is instructions. Envelopes are facing Load the envelopes in Tray 1 so the the wrong way in flaps are facing down. If the flaps are on the short edge, set the envelopes in Tray 1 so that the flaps are on the printer side. Solving Problems with Media Jams 95 Symptom Media is jamming.
