This chapter describes how to install this printer driver while explaining the driver's features. 3. 1 System Requirements The following list contains the system requirements necessary for optimal operation of the Minolta Pi6000 PostScript Printer Driver. l l l l l l l Operating System: Microsoft Windows 3. 1 or later. Personal Computer: IBM-compatible PC with at least a 386DX 16Mz CPU, or faster CPU (Pentium processor recommended). CD-ROM Display: VGA (640 x 480-dot) or higher resolution. Use of a poor quality parallel cable may adversely affect the input. Pi6000 PostScript Option 3-1 3 3. 2 Windows 3. 1 Installing the Pi6000 PostScript Printer Driver Make sure that the printer is connected to your computer with the recommended parallel cable. 1 2 3 Turn on the printer. Insert the Pi6000 PostScript Printer Software CD-ROM into your computer's CD-ROM drive. For this example, we will assume that the CD-ROM is located in drive D:\. From the Program Manager, double-click Main to display the Main group, and then double-click File Manager. 4 5 Open the drive D:\ window and click the win31 directory. Click the driver\31\adobeps directory then double click the setup. exe icon to start the installer. 3-2 Pi6000 PostScript Option Windows 3. 1 After reading the End User License Agreement and agreeing to its terms, click the [Accept] button. 3 6 Click the [Read] button to open the ReadMe file for Adobe PS3 for Windows 3. 1, then read the document. 7 Select Exit from the File menu on the ReadMe screen to return to the PostScript Printer Driver Setup dialog box. Pi6000 PostScript Option 3-3 3 8 Windows 3. 1 Click the [Continue] button to start installing the printer driver. 9 Click the [Restart Windows] button to restart Windows 3. 1. 3-4 Pi6000 PostScript Option Windows 3. 1 3 NOTE If the Install PostScript Printer from PPD dialog box does not appear after Windows 3. 1 is restarted, open the Install PostScript Printer from PPD dialog box manually. From the Main group double-click the Control Panel icon, then double-click Adobe PostScript Printers. 10Select d: drive in the Drives box. Select the driver\31\adobeps directory then the printed directory in the Directories box. Select Minolta Pi6000 PS in the Printer Descriptions Available list, then click the [Install] button. 11Click the [OK] button to return to the Install PostScript Printer from PPD dialog box. Windows 3. 1 13Click the [OK] button. 14From the Control Panel dialog box, double-click the Printers icon to open the Printers dialog box. 3-6 Pi6000 PostScript Option Windows 3. 1 3 15Make sure that Minolta Pi6000 PS on LPT1: is displayed in the Installed Printers list. Pi6000 PostScript Option 3-7 3 3. 3 Minolta Pi6000 PS Driver Overview Windows 3. 1 The Minolta Pi6000 PS Driver lets you set up your Pi6000 PS printer to produce exactly the printed output you want under Windows 3. 1. Note that such factors as the original data (data format), the type of paper you are using, and the settings of your application software can also affect printing results. Displaying the Minolta Pi6000 PS Setup Dialog 1 2 3 Double-click the Control panel icon, which is located in the Main group within Program Manager. Select Minolta Pi6000 PS from the Installed Printers menu, and then click Setup. To work with a particular group of settings, click on the appropriate tap at the top of the dialog. l Tabs Click on a tab to display its settings. The contents of these tabs and their settings are described in detail in the following pages. Closing the Pi6000 PS PostScript Driver Dialog After you have finished using the Pi6000 PS PostScript driver dialog click either the [OK] button or [Cancel] button. 3-8 Pi6000 PostScript Option Windows 3. 1 3 3. 4 Making Settings You can use the following standard Windows procedures to make driver settings. l l l l l Clicking an option button or name Clicking a checkbox Dragging a scroll box or scroll bar Clicking a list box and then clicking an item in the list Holding down the Alt key and typing the character that represents the setting See the documentation that comes with Windows 3. 1 for details on these and other operations. Common Button Operations The following buttons appear at the bottom of all the driver tabs. l l l l [OK] Click this button to close the printer driver window and send all the setting changes you made to the printer.
