[. . . ] Take the unit to a qualified service person for inspection and necessary repairs. Read all the instructions before connecting or operating the component. Heed all warnings and safety information in these instructions and on the product itself. You must allow 10 cm or 4 inches of unobstructed clearance around the unit. [. . . ] A display window appears on screen with the current VSS mode shown on the left side. There are four settings for VSS: · Action is suitable for action films and sports where sounds move around the room · Drama provides warm, natural sound. To change settings: Press the VSS button again, cycling through until the desired effect appears on the display window. To adjust the intensity of the effect: The intensity of each VSS effect can be increased or decreased in five steps as shown on the bar graph in the display window. The window will automatically close following 10 seconds of inactivity. · Press the ON-SCREEN button to show the DVD CONTROL screen. · Use the CURSOR buttons to move the over the subtitle field as shown above. · Press the SUBTITLE button or the CURSOR buttons to change to the next available subtitle option. · Press the ON-SCREEN button to close the display window. NOTE: The position of the subtitle field differs slightly on SVCD screens. SVCD discs always have four subtitle options (plus off) to cycle through, even if there are no subtitles available in some of the positions. · Contrast determines the difference between the lightest and darkest tones. · Gamma changes the brightness of midtones without altering dark or light tones. Each press will cycle CURSOR through to the next option, as shown on the screen display. To adjust a parameter: Press one of the buttons to increase or decrease CURSOR the setting, as shown on the bar graph on the screen display. The PCB PLAY feature can also be reactivated from the OnScreen Display: · Press ON-SCREEN to display the Video CD or SVCD CONTROL screen. · Press ENTER to display the PBC menu. Chapter Track Track Track If the icon appears, the scene you have selected is not available. NOTE: The direct access feature is not available during DVD playback when a menu is being shown on screen. This feature is also not available during PBC playback on Video CD/SVCD discs. Examples: To select 1, press: To select 14, press: To select 28, press: To select 30, press: 1 +10 Á 4 +10 Á +10 Á 8 +10 Á +10 Á 10 19 English Find a Scene from a DVD Digest DIGEST Button With a video disc inserted, the RX-1203 can display thumbnail images of the opening scenes from each Title or Chapter on a DVD Video disc or each Track on a Video CD/SVCD disc. You can then play the desired scene by selecting its thumbnail image. Find a Scene using the On-Screen Display ON-SCREEN Button While playing a DVD disc, you can search for a specific Chapter (on a DVD Video disc) or Track (on a DVD Audio disc with pictures) using the On-Screen Display. The screen will appear slightly different for DVD Video and DVD Audio discs. Find a Location on the Disc with Time Search You can play from a desired location by specifying the elapsed time from the beginning of the current Title (for DVD Video), the current Group (for DVD Audio), or the disc (for Audio CD/Video CD/SVCD) using the TIME SEARCH function. The screen will appear slightly different for each kind of disc, but the procedure is the same. The digest feature is available on DVD Video discs during playback or when they are stopped. It is available on Video CD/ SVCD discs when they are stopped or during non-PBC playback. NOTE: To use the digest feature: · Press the DIGEST button on the remote. · Use the CURSOR buttons to move the over the CHAP SEARCH field (for a DVD . · Use the NUMERIC buttons (0­9) to enter the desired Chapter or Track number. The selected number appears in the message box at the bottom of the screen · Use the CURSOR buttons to move the over the TIME SEARCH field as shown above (it may be in a different position). · Using the NUMERIC buttons (0­9) to enter the desired elapsed time in the message box on the screen. [. . . ] The Parental Lock feature allows you to set the restriction anywhere from Level 1 to Level 8. A disc with a rating higher than the specified level requires entry of a password for playback. Thus, if you specify a Level 5 restriction, any discs rated Level 6 or higher require a password. · Enter a 4-digit password using the NUMERIC (0­9) buttons on the remote. Press ENTER again to exit the Parental Lock screen and return to the Opening Screen. [. . . ]
